AFFILIATION,
no, lali has not committed any sort of crime. she’s quite the outstanding citizen, actually. that one person who is happy to volunteer long hours at a job that no one else wants and that person who tries to help anyone in anyway she can. however, her position on justice is somewhat irregular. so, she's taken herself out of regular society and decided to do good else where. in solemnitas, she is apart of the city's security force. a modified version of a police officer, i suppose you’d say? despite that position, lali strives to be both someone a citizen in the city can go to for help and someone with a reputation of taking her job seriously. while she admittedly prefers to make acquaintances with the more...normal residence in the city, she'd just as easily go on to punish rule breakers. if she sees you fighting, graffiti-ing, or any sort of un-permitable activities (gang related or not), she won't hesitate to dawn her cop persona. still, coming from normal society she will pause to question if using her gun or any sort of lethal force is absolutely necessary. killing without a cause is unacceptable in her book.
REASON,
why wouldn't any sane person want to work in such a unique place? a tropical setting with a variety of different people to be around all day and - oh hell. no one is being fooled here, are they? solemnitas is more than likely the last place anyone involved with police enforcement or criminal justice of any sort would want to be. lali herself was extremely hesitant to even set foot on the island, but her services were welcomed and she didn't have the heart to leave her older brother in the city alone.
you see lali's brother elliot had gotten wrapped up in this rather tangled mess - a mess where the details given to her are frustratingly vague. for months elliot struggled financially and emotionally, and promptly made sure to shut his mother and siblings out. all the while, the vale family had no idea what was causing it or how to help the eldest child. he'd constantly be borrowing money and running off to god-knows where. finally a break through seemed to occur late last year. elliot came to his mother and twin siblings and told them he would be going to work as law enforcement in the tropics. strangely, he seemed relieved and maybe even a little excited to just pick up and leave. worried, lali insisted and fought with her brother until he arranged for her, a rookie police officer in los angeles at the time, to come along on the initial trip over. one event after another took place and going on her gut instinct, lali decided to remain on the island with her bro. elliot arranged for her to join the security force as well, (though she isn't exactly sure how). it's been about a year since then, if not a little longer.

+ POSITIVE,
KIND[/color]ness will get you everywhere. lali knows exactly when a bit of sweet words can earn someone's trust. to build decent relationships with who she's able to and promote a just as decent reputation, she tries to keep herself calm as possible and generally FRIENDLY. some people ask why she needs to be so nice to people who've done so much wrong, or even the heartless security that tend to be spotted around the city. its because ms. vale is a very INTERPERSONAL human; she dislikes being alone for long periods of time and therefore will often go out of her way to be around others, (including the gangies, in spite of their actions. besides, its a good way to keep an eye on them!).
being a security agent as she is, though, she knows WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE between having a nice conversation with someone and getting involved with murderers. she's pleasant as long as you stay on her good side and obey the make-shift laws in the city. if you don't, well, lets just say lali is HARDWORKING. looking after such dangerous people is a big job and should not be taken lightly. some people may think she is over zealous about keeping the peace, but she thinks she exerts the perfect amount of effort.
to succeed in such a task, one must be INTELLECTUAL, no? with a high school degree and particular knowledge about european history under her belt, (not to say that knowledge helps her around here) its safe to say that lali knows her stuff. about history, and about keeping others in line. she'd dabbled in a bit of teaching right after school and it was an experience for her, giving her a place to practice her AUTHORITATIVE NATURE. she adapted to the 'large and in charge' feeling rather nicely and is now very used to people following her orders. perhaps it is because of that feeling that she can turn into quite the BAD ASS when it is needed from her. almost always when people don't listen to her direction. what can she say? lali stands up for what she believes in and will fight to defend this and that. despite her restricted movements, she's also physically capable to "teaching people a lesson".
whether it concerns her co-workers or the gangs on the streets, truthfulness is something very important to her. she doesn't think the world could go round based on lies, and having been majorly lied to before, she knows the hurt it can bring. needless to say that it takes a while for you to really come into her inner circle, but once you do, you know you can trust lali with your deepest secrets. in fact, she is probably one of the most TRUSTWORTHY people out there.
hand in hand with these traits is the fact that she can be quite the PROTECTIVE one of those she has faith in. the young woman has been known to SELF SACRIFICE with that same group of people she trusts; even took a bullet to the shoulder for a fellow officer back home, giving her an essence of BRAVERY. yes, yes, it makes her sound like some sort of super hero, but she never intended it to turn out that way. she has humble roots and in turn, is a MODEST lady. - NEGATIVE,
although we've made it clear that lali enjoys the company of others, she is in many ways INDEPENDENT. not that being independent is always a bad thing, but this sort of feeds a "self-savior" complex that she has. lali doesn't like it when people need to come to her aid or ask if she wants help. even more, she hates it when part of her feels like she needs someone else's help. nevertheless, she can be extremely STUBBORN and won't let herself - and sometimes others - ever give in. in the cases involving said 'others', she can be quite the relentless NAG if need be.
much like most women, she feels like she needs to be CONTROLLING in some way. more often than not, if lali isn't in charge of a difficult situation, she gets extremely flustered and flail-esque. there are always times when things won't go her way, though. obviously. there are times when that can set off her sensitive HOT TEMPER. when lali gets mad, she is also prone to getting LOUD and VIOLENT. throwing the nearest object at her aggressor her is not beyond our red haired friend. people tend to think that her casualness means she is anything but aggressive. but clearly we've made a point of her ability to not only take care of herself, but take care of people who break the rules. similarly, she can take care of those who manage to piss her off bad enough. sometimes she's a ticking time bomb waiting to explode, both with her temper and with her mood swings. that's right, like most women lali has a tendency to be MOODY when it suits her.
in a moody state especially, lali has trouble keeping down RUDE or BLUNT comments. she'll often try to beat around the bush if it is to spare someone's feelings, but there are times when you need to just tell it like it is: the ugly truth. when she's not feeling tip-top, she's more likely to say something hurtful by accident.
we absolutely need to mention that when left to her own devices, lal also tends to get a bit RASH and RECKLESS. the "jump now, think later" thing kicks in pretty quickly. that mostly relates to her WORK-A-HOLIC characteristic, (but will sometimes to apply to her everyday life as well). there isn't much to say besides she practically eats, sleeps, and breaths her career. when she was home in LA, it was much, much worse because instead of just making sure everyone is behaving, she would be out trying to solve cases and catch the bad guy. this has lead to a bad case of EASY STRESS / WORRY -- so much so that sometimes it can become too overbearing and bring her to tears. yet, even now she thinks her job is worth the effort and, in that belief, she's apparently lost her sense of fun, (the disability of NOT TAKING A JOKE to save her life is easily applied here). at only twenty, you practically have to drag her off her patrol of the streets.
lastly: vulnerability and weakness is something that lali doesn't fair well with. it may or may not tie into her independent trait, she's decided. regardless, she'd sooner LOCK HERSELF AWAY THAN LET SOMEONE SEE HER CRY. the thought of someone seeing her as some damsel in distress instead of a strong woman who can take care of herself, is indeed chilling to our miss. vale.

FEARS,
→ mild OPHIDIOPHOBIA, fear of snakes. ever since she had a run in with a rather menacing looking garden snake as a child, lali has purposely stayed away from anything reptile that slithers.[/COLOR], fear of ghosts and the supernatural. one of the two fears that doesn't have much reason behind them. the only explanation that she can offer is that elliot and braxton both liked to play cruel jokes on her when they were younger and being exposed to horror movies too young, the fear has just stuck with her.
→ mild PHASMAPHOBIA
→ severe ACROPHOBIA[/COLOR], fear of heights. no particular reason for this fear. its just a personality quirk and whenever lali is more than ten feet off the ground, she'll promptly freak out.
→ severe ASTRAPHOBIA, fear of thunderstorms. having been subject to a one with odd strength while she was home alone in her earlier teen years, she's come to resent whenever thunder rumbles in the distance. if she is somewhere around people, she usually will politely excuse herself and get to her room with as much speed as possible so that she can be hiding under the blanks, (or in a corner) before the storm hits full force.[/size][/blockquote]
DREAMS,
→ as generic as it may sound, lali, like many women, want to FIND HER OTHER HALF. she has a very romantic, (and cliche) idea of what the love of her life should be; exceptionally sweet and caring, protective and trustworthy, likes long walks on the beach, yadah, yadah, yadah. in short, she's looking for the whole 'knight in shining armor' deal who will want to settle down with her and adopt cat. (from an outside view, her future will sure be a shock to say the least!)
→ just as much as - probably even more - than her first dream, our redheaded security chick would like to MAKE AN IMPACT in the lives of others. whether it be one or one hundred, lali desperately hopes that at some point in her life, she'll help someone for the better.
HOBBIES,
→ despite the fact that more often than not, lali would prefer to just go back to bed, she does drag her butt out pretty early on mondays, wednesdays, and saturdays to have a MORNING RUN. she has tried dieting and sleeping more in the past but found that it does jack for her figure. so, the runs not only wake her up in the morning but help her stay in shape.
→ purely a hobby she indulged back home in LA, lal barely has the time or the materials to pick up her BAKING hobby anymore. nonetheless, she still finds a calming enjoyment in making cookies, brownies, and cakes.
→ CARDS are something she uses to pass a boring day, even if she doesn't have anyone to play with. she's pretty good with most games -- at least the most common ones. in terms of cards and betting, lali actually has a good combo of luck and skill to win decent money. not that she gambles more than a few times a year, if that.
HABITS,
→ it isn't so much that lali is fidgety or impatient. instead, its more that she feels that playing with her hair, tapping on a desk, or rolling a pen back and forth through her hands to keep her focused. to be able to think clearly, lali needs to MOVE in some way or another.
→ as unlady-like as it seems, lali can't help but being SARCASTIC when people are acting childish or stupid. she has the patients to bite her tongue from time to time, but depending on the situation at hand, her sarcasm will vary.
SECRETS,
→ a secret that isn't so much a secret, (as most people feel it at some point or another) pertains to the fact that lali greatly MISSES THE REST OF HER FAMILY. she found it was difficult, emotionally, to choose to stay with elliot instead of retreating back to sunny california, where her school-secretary mother and writer twin brother lived normal lives well away from rapists, murderers, and worse. sometimes she wishes she could just pick up and leave but, even though elliot has made sure to keep her in the dark about the true workings of the island, she has a feeling she wouldn't be able to leave so easily.
→ there are two reasons ms. vale dislikes skimpy tops. the first is that her large chest gets enough attention fully clothed; she fears what would happen to her pride if she were to wear a tank-top in the presence of another. second is because she likes to keep her SCARRED BACK a secret. when she was fifteen, she was in a wreck with her father and although she survived while he didn't, she has rather nasty remnants of the incident from her shoulders to her lower back. the only people that know about it are her family and her ex-partner back in LA, plus a few ex-boyfriends who she's lost contact with. both secrets she keeps to herself and her brother only because she feels like they'd be reason to think she's weak.
PERSONAL ITEMS,
→ a SAPPHIRE JEWELED RING that belonged to her great-great grandmother. it is worn in the form of a necklace, hanging from a simple silver chain, since it is too big to fit on any of lali's fingers without flying off. it was given to her by her mother and she plans to pass it down, too, if she ever has a chance to have a family. even though it was safe to wear it back home, she doesn't anymore in fear some conman will snatch it somehow.
→ under her pillow is a small, hand-held PHOTO ALBUM, containing photos of her brothers, mother, and father before the accident. there are also pictures of her friends from high school, a few of her students from when she taught and of her police squad buddies from home, and the family cat.

WEAPONS,
→ safely tucked in a belt holster is that standard COMPACT G19 glock handgun, small and black in colour. lali uses it mostly for intimidation but it certainly isn't just for looks. she'll willingly fire if a situation turns sour for one reason or another or if her personal safety is threatened. she dislikes waving it in people's faces and flaunting it, but that's just her own feelings on the matter. seeing as how she'd rather resolve things through a cunning speech then using weapons, it is the only thing that lali carries with her. she does, however, have plenty extra ammunition for her gun with her on a daily basis.

her father's side is seventy-five percent english and a quarter greek. her mother's side is ninety percent swedish and ten percent austrian. being born in the united states makes the children american[/color] as well. clearly, lali and the other vale children have a good mix of background. and yet, we all wonder where exactly the red hair comes from. HISTORY,
it was a cold december when melissa and jaiden vale decided that they wanted another child, preferably a girl, to accompany their two-and-a-half year old son, elliot. just one more to make a complete family. so, the tried a few times and melissa came to her husband a month later, telling him that they were to have another child indeed. what the pair didn't know was that elliot wouldn't just be getting a single sibling -- he would be getting both a little brother and a little sister. the news broke a few months later after a routine doctor's visit and although thoroughly surprised at the announcement of twins, the small vale family was excited to welcome the new additions.
the two were born without any trouble and the even though jaiden and melissa went through the usual troubles times two, the family was content. as elliot grew and the twins after him, the experienced the usual trifles of a family with three kids, ("mom, elliot stole my barbie!", "well, lali stole my leggos!", "but you pulled my hair first!", "no, that was brax!", "hey, that wasn't me, quit lying!"). there was fighting, laughter, and endless running around driving their parents crazy -- then more fighting later. but between the good and the bad, they were a happy family, (and a close one) with no issues emotionally, physically, and or financially. the only thing that ever took a toll on the vales was not until the twins were fifteen.
elliot was that jock in high school who was not only on a sport team every season, but also on student council, the year book committee, school newspaper, etc. he graduated during the same school year that lali and braxton entered as freshmen. once her elder brother departed from their LA high school, lali went on to follow in his footsteps; she joined the soccer team and track team, became her class's vice president, and was an active member of the national honor's society. brax, on the other hand, was the class clown that didn't really care about community service or brutal sports games after school. he only did fair in school while his sister strived for excellence. and punctuality.
one sunny april day during their sophomore year, the twins had been dismissed during their last period for a doctor's appointment. as fine and dandy as that usually was, lali was eager to get back to the track and field practice she was missing. the teen urged her father further and further until the speedometer clocked them in at twenty miles an hour over the allotted speed limit. the old family car protested but neither of them paid much mind to it. it wasn't until jaiden realized there was a stop sign they were in danger of running through that he slammed the brakes.
brakes that had chosen that very car ride to stop working correctly.
with the on-coming traffic, it was no surprise that an accident ensued. it wasn't just an accident, grievously: it was a total car wreck. the force of impact from the van that slammed into them, the broken glass littering every inch of the interior, a flaming engine, and crushed outer body. all that damage was nothing compared to the fact that jaiden vale lost his life that day. lali managed to keep her existance though obtained extensive back injuries that took a very long time to heal.
obviously, melissa and the boys were just as devastated as lali about the tragedy. a heart-felt funeral was held once the only daughter was released from the hospital. it took another few years to the family to mend itself, but obviously, some memories still lingered. elliot and lali chose to try and forget about the past as a whole until recently, and braxton and melissa wallowed in what was. life went on, and life will continue to go on, despite elliot's troubles and the two of them being placed in solemnitas city for their services.
EXTRA INFO,
the only vivid reminders that lali has of the wreck are the hypertrophic and atrophic scars along the entire length of her shoulders and back, as mentioned in her fears. this restricts some of her mobility, but lal has learned how to adjust her movements well. she once had chronic back pain due to the injury, but it only ever flairs up during extensive activity anymore.
