SECRETS, her past – she is, of course, well aware that sexual offenders are among the most hated types of criminals. although she prefers not to talk about it, it doesn't stop her from occasionally alluding to it, or continuing her fun during her stay at solemnitas. her talents – she pretends to have nothing that would interest anyone, but is actually quite capable. however, she feels that it is in her best interest not to boast of her achievements. her tastes – eden is still very much attracted to children, however immoral it may be. it was not, in fact, eden hartzson’s first murder, though she allowed investigators to believe it was so; her surprisingly cooperative attitude toward the case and her apparent feelings of true regret caused them to accept her confession without question. she was young, attractive, with a sorrowful air – it seemed difficult to believe a woman like her would do such a terrible thing to a young boy.

the victim had been twelve years old.

bound, gagged, and when hartzson had apparently been satisfied, shot through the heart. a clean kill, and an unclean act, supposedly done for the sole reason that "he struggled too much" – so one detective felt that there was something decidedly odd about the case, and that one detective turned the entire scenario upside-down. certain children in the neighborhood bore strange scars. a twin brother of a sixteen-year-old boy had disappeared three years back – they speculated that he had run off after an argument with his parents, possibly hitchhiked to another state. several boys had gone missing for days and returned with no recollection with what had happened while they were out. and, most distressingly, not one of the neighborhood children would talk about their encounters with eden hartzson.

they vehemently denied knowing her.

it was as though she did not exist in their minds.

when questioned, she merely acknowledged the murder of the twelve-year-old victim and no one else – but it was obvious, so obvious, that there had been more. but there was no proof. no confession from her, no testimonies from victims. they sent her to solemnitas all the same – after all, she was clearly somewhat mentally unstable. she could have raped one child, or she could have raped sixty. who could say, when sarcasm and aggressive questioning only yielded smiles and half-lidded eyes and quiet retorts? who could say, when even such a composed woman could have been nothing more than a rapist and a murderer?
